Do you have OpenLDAP logging enabled via syslog?

All errors/messages will be logged there.

OX might have those stupid ACI tags still. I raised a bug report about
this and it was removed, but many Howtos on the net still have them.
There's no need for them with proper ACLs.

Also some of the Howtos list deprecated ACL syntax. The schema should be
fine though.

OpenLDAP needs to be specially compiled for them, and they are a waste of
time.

Get your logging going and come back with some pastes ;-)
