Open-Xchange Palm connector
Configuration
On Windows, the configuration of conduits is performed through the HotSync Manager. Click the HotSync icon in the task bar at the bottom right of the screen and select "Custom..." in the menu in order to display the list of conduits. One conduit for each of addressbook, calendar and to do list must be enabled, unless the cooperation mode is set to "Standalone" (see 1.8). Select "Open-Xchange" from the list of conduits and click "Change...". The settings of the Open-Xchange synchronization can be performed in the following dialog.
The individual settings, which are mostly identical on Linux and Windows, are covered in the following sections.
Settings
Enter the address of the Open-Xchange server as HTTP or HTTPS URL. The URL should have the form of http://oxserver/ or https://secureserver/. If only the server address is entered, HTTP is assumed.
Enter the user name you use for logging in to the server.
Enter the password you use for logging in to the server.
General - HotSync Action for Open-Xchange
Similar to other conduits, you can determine the kind of synchronization to perform.
Synchronize the files
This is the normal synchronization procedure in the course of which changes are transferred from the Open-Xchange server to the handheld and from the handheld to the Open-Xchange server. If some changes on the handheld and on the Open-Xchange server affect the same data, the Open-Xchange server has priority and the changes made on the handheld will be lost.
Server overwrites handheld
If this action is selected, the data on the handheld will be overwritten by the data from the Open-Xchange server.
WARNING: Any data that only exists on the handheld but not on the Open-Xchange server will be lost. On Windows, if cooperation mode is set to "With Palm Desktop" (see 1.8), the data is archived by the other enabled conduits.
Changes to common data that were performed on the handheld will be lost in any case.
As this action may take more time than "Synchronize the files", you should only select this item if the normal synchronization is not able to handle the differences between the handheld and the Open-Xchange server. For example, this is the case after a hard reset of the handheld during which all data is deleted.
This option is selected automatically when the server information is changed.
Upload handheld data to server
This action acts much like "Synchronize the files", except that it reads all handheld data (and is therefode slow) and uploads all unknown handheld data to the Open-Xchange server. This option is especially useful when synchronizing a handheld full of important data for the first time.
General - Set selected HotSync action as default
Activate this box in order to use the selected HotSync action for all further synchronizations.
Deactivate this box if you only want to use the selected HotSync action for the next synchronization. This option is especially useful for running the HotSync action 'Server overwrites handheld' once in order to resolve data consistency problems.
Folders - Synchronized folders
After you fill in the server settings on the "General" page, switching to the page "Folders" will establish a connection to the specified server and the available folders will be displayed. You can select the folders you want to include in the synchronization by clicking on the boxes next to the folders.
If you select the item "All tasks", all task folders will be synchronized. The same applies to the items "All appointments" and "All contacts".
If neither the "All ..." entry nor any folders of the same type type are slected, but the database is enabled for synchronization (see 1.5), then all data of this type will be deleted from the handheld.
Folders - Enabled databases
Here you can select which of the three databases should be synchronized or completely ignored. Click on one of the three boxes to enable or disable the synchronization of the corresponding database.
Folders - Upload folders
Here you can select which folder will be used to store new data created on the handheld. Each of the three databases can have its own folder of the right type. The special setting "Default" (it's the first in every drop-down list) means that new data will be stored in the default folder.
Contacts - Custom fields
Here you can specify up to four additinoal contact fields which will be synchronized with the four custom fields in the handheld's address book. Changes to these settings apply only to future synchronizations. To apply the changes to all existing contacts, use the HotSync action "Server overwrites handheld". The names of the custom fields are not affected by the synchronization. They must be adjusted manually.
Advanced - Proxy information
Here you can enter information about a HTTP proxy, if you need to use one to connect to the Open-Xchange server.
Advanced - Cooperation mode
This setting defines how the Open-Xchange conduit cooperates with Palm Desktop or other compatible conduits that synchronize the same three handheld databases (to do list, date book and addresses).
With Palm Desktop (other conduits enabled)
This is the default setting. When this setting is selected, the Open-Xchange conduit assumes there are other conduits which synchronize with the same handheld databases. For each synchronized database, there must be one other conduit configured to synchronize the data.
Standalone (other conduits disabled)
When this setting is selected, the Open-Xchange conduit assumes there are no other conduits which synchronize with the same handheld databases. Any other conduits configured to synchronize the same databases will not see any modifications to the synchronized records on the handheld.
Synchronization
Private records are completely ignored during any synchronization.
Appointments and Tasks of which the user is not a participant are not synchronized.
The following section describes the synchronization of the three supported databases in detail
